========================================
NaFu!

Miho’s Report from the UK. Dec.
========================================

Miho’s Report from the UK Dec.
On 9th this month, Intensive English Autumn term finished and all of students in the English
course did some games.
Teacher said that this is sort of custom when each term of the English course finishes in this
University.
Most of games were like quiz, but one teacher gave us a different kind of the quiz.
He said only word or name of the place and we had to answer what it associate of is.
Like some of them were address of some where and one of them was name of the Stadium.
It seemed quite difficult for all of us, but there was a one address that nobody had any idea
and it was “4 Privet Drive”.
Some people who know that story and reading my report right now might know the answer.
Yes, it’s where Harry Potter lives!
Actually that is the house of the sister of Harry’s mother and Harry doesn’t like to live with
them.
I looked like I was a only one who knew the answer and I was little bit happy about it, but
may be I know too much about the story of Harry Potter.
The teacher who gave us this quiz was seemed happy because no one knew what is it ass-
ociate of except only me.
It seems 6 of my classmates including me continue study Intensive English for next Spring
term and some of them are going to other school, back to their country or study other co-
urse in this University.
I asked about next class to my tutor Andrew and he said that it’s gonna be similar class to
last class and classmates who continue to study will probably become same class again.
I hope all of them are gonna be same class, because I get used to talk with them I think
they are really nice.

I think condition of Jack (little boy of my host mother) gets much better than before and
he has taken off his plaster cast on his arm.
He looks really exciting these day, I think it’s because Christmas day coming soon.
Amy (host mother) and Tommy (her boyfriend) went on holidays in beginning of this month.
During they were away, Jack stayed at nanny’s house, but I am not sure that was it nanny
or Amy’s parents house.
Amy said they went to Amsterdam for 3 days and they seemed enjoy stay there.
It looks like really convenience to go to the other European countries from here.
Andrew said that we can see the island of France from the beach in the Brighton, so it’s
quite near.
I think the name of Amy’s boyfriend is Tommy, because Amy and Jack call him so, but I
am not sure how to spell it.
Last week all of them decorated in the sitting room and took out the Christmas tree.
I think these are really nice and there are quite many presents under the tree like tradi-
tional as many people know.
In beginning of this month I looked after Jack while Amy and Tommy went to the TESCO
(big supermarket near from the house) .
I am not good at play with children, but he seemed like to watch DVD with me and I wat-
ched the animation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I’ve been liked the film of TMNT (not animation) since I was small, so I know the story,
name of characters, each of their personalities, so I can talk about it with him.
After Amy and Tommy backed from holidays I’ve found that Jack also loves the film of
Labyrinth which I’ve loved since I was small too.
Then I told him that I can lend you my DVDs if you ask me, because I’ve got DVD of
TMNT and Labyrinth here and he also lent me his DVDs during Amy and Tommy were
away.
Since I looked after him, he seems liked to talk and watch DVD with me, so I think it was
good opportunity for me to be friendly with him.
I know that of course it is normal that Jack can speak good English, like he normally uses Present participle and Present perfect, so possibly I can practice using grammar in
speaking with him.
It has been quite warm this month and it is said that most of place in the UK in this year
is warmer than last year.
It might because of the world is getting warm.
Some time I need gloves, but not every day, so I think it quite good weather to live.
Not very cold and not very, like spring and autumn weather.
I was planning to visit Boston where I stayed and studied 4 years ago and I wanted to
meet my last two host family, but I heard that it take quite long time to go there by train
and I couldn’t find exact way to get there.
Also one of my last host family Sheila said that the train condition between London and
Boston is not good and there seems not train come to Boston.
I also wanted to meet one Japanese friend, but I hope I can meet my last host family in few
years.
By the way I am gonna go to the Manchester with my friend (classmate, Japanese girl) by
National Express (bus) from Brighton and back to Brighton on 23rd and 24th this month.
I think this trip is gonna be nice. Hope weather is nice too.
Actually I’ve been to Manchester, but unfortunately I’ve got a fever and my stomach felt
not well, so I couldn’t enjoy time there and I also feel sorry for my friend who came with
me.
On 24th and 25th, I stayed at home, because I didn’t have any fever on 24th, but my
stomach still felt not well, so I didn’t wanna go out.
I `m fine now, so don’t need to worry about it.
As some people know that the film of “NARNIA” is in cinemas here now, but I still haven’t
watched it.
But on 22nd, I’ve seen the “NARNIA” first time and saw again in this week.
It was really good and I’ve seen it on 3rd this month as well.
I thought it’s little bit similar to the Lord of the Rings, but story is much light and suitable
for teenagers and small children.
It’s really exciting and interesting for me, because there are quite many imagination animals
such as Fauns, Kentauroses, Gryphons and Phoenix.
I’ve never seen that these animals created by Computer Graphics, so It was really impressive.
I think it’s in cinema from this March in Japan, so my be I can watch again after came back to
Japan,
I recommend it to people who especially people who like fantasy film.
Also the film of “KING KONG” is in cinemas from 15th this month too.
I didn’t know that director of it is Peter Jackson and movements of KING KONG is actor who
played movements of Gollum in Lord of the Rings.
Peter Jackson is the director of the LOR too, so I thought it could be interesting for me, be-
cause I’ve liked LOR so much, but I like to watch “NARNIA” much more than “KING KOND”,
so I will probably wait until it becomes DVD.
Hope all of you had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Well, I think that’s all of this month.
See ya next month.

========================================

Miho’s Report from the UK. Nov
========================================

Miho’s Report from the UK. Nov. It is going to be two months for study in Intensive English in the University of Sussex next month. I think I get used to study now and I am enjoying spending time here. Also I get used to hear and understand other student’s speaking, but still it is very difficult for me to understand what Spanish men are speaking. I feel that I became friendly with my classmates and I went to watch the film of “Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire” and went to Portsmouth Harbour with some of them. I really enjoyed going with them and hope I can go with them some times. In our class, we still have chance to speak and discuss about something with other students and at first I was little bit nervous, but I think I am OK now. I quite like to speak with other students. I found that most of British people actually do not like American people through the classes and speak with host family. We are learning British English here, so teachers normally tell us difference between British and American English and I think it is very interesting, but they seems doesn’t think Americ- an English is nice. The other thing is about baseball. I think baseball is much popular than football (soccer) in Japan, but when I say it teacher and my host family surprised about it. I like baseball better than football especially Hanshin Tigers, so I felt little bit strange. Both of them said that “It very American isn’t it?” and I think it because most of British peo- ple not interested in the USA. I think that baseball is one of Japanese history, because we’ve been had professional baseb- all for so long time, even before the World War. Well, probably sports in many countries can say it I suppose. Interesting thing is that “soccer” used to be in British English, but it become very old word in the UK.(teacher told us) I didn’t know about it, so it was very new to me. Jack (Amy’s son) broke his left arm in beginning of this month, so he fells not well, because he seemed to think that he gets hurt even when he does normal movement. Recently he gets better and looks OK now and he talks with me much more than before. Especially I know the things he likes, so I can talk about them. For example, Spider-man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (animation), Batman, Disney films, Thunderbirds, etc… May be most of my favourite things are for children in this country. I think Amy is still twenty five or some thing, because she looks very young and I am not sure that is it rude to ask age or not in British custom. Amy might be divorced with her husband Gary, because sometime the other person who looks like her boyfriend comes and stays at her house. Jack seems quite like him (boyfriend) and I do not mind at all, so no problem, because I heard that quite many people in this country live with their girlfriend or boyfriend even they not get married. It is maybe not common in Japan, but I think it is different way of thinking about marriage and live together. The host family of a Japanese girl in my class are seems similar situation, but she doesn’t mind too. For me, if they are nice people it is not important that are they get married, are they divorced or are they live with girlfriend or boyfriend. I’ve been to the Brighton at least four times in this month, because I’ve watched the film three times and visited popular building called Royal Pavilion with classmates and teacher once. I’m gonna write about the Royal Pavilion first. Royal Pavilion is the huge and little bit strange looking building which George the fourth used to live. Nowadays it is a museum and you can get inside to see what it is like, but you have to pay and if you want, you can join the tour that one of the staff explain about each room we can see. This time we joined the tour and it was really interesting place, but also strange inside. There are some kinds of architectures mixed, for example Chinese, Indian, Roman and soon…, so you can see strange mixed style inside and outside of it. I’ve watched “Corpse Bride” once and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” twice there. I went to the cinema with some classmates when I watched “Harry Potter” first time. I think both of them are quite good, but I am sure that some people did not liked “Harry Potter”, because there are only few funny parts and almost dark parts in the story. I really liked it and watched twice, because I am a big fan of the “Harry Potter” and every time I read book before watch film. I am looking forward to watch and read next one too. I as really glad that I could watch the film “Harry Potter” twice in the country where that story born. I didn’t expect four years ago and I’ll never forget these experiences. I am also looking forward to watch the film “NARNIA The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” that is gonna be in the cinema 8th next month. Amy said that it should be very good, because she’s read the book of it. It gonna be in the cinema in next March in Japan, isn’t it? Maybe because it takes time to make Japanese subtitles and dubbed in Japanese. It seems OK to eat foods in the cine here, because some classmates ate McDonald’s meal during we watched the “Harry Potter” and other people didn’t mind it. Well looks like most of people in this country eat something when watch the film and we can get foods and drinks in the cinema. Such as popcorn, many kind of crisps, sweets smorgasbord and ice creams. I didn’t think that we can get ice cream in the cinema. I usually take train to go to the University and it is called Southern Service. I’ve never taken train in the UK, so I didn’t know how it like, but I take it every day and I’ve found some differences compare to Japanese train. There are buttons (one for open and the other for close) on each door both inside and out- side, so we can open the door anytime we want except just few seconds before train leave. I was surprised that Southern Service is quite punctual (on time) and it is similar to Japa- nese train especially Kintetsu, because I heard transportations in other countries are not punctual and it is quite usual to delay. I really like it, but I also found that sometime it delay and train cancelled. I had like that situation when I came back to home, so I remember little bit about JR West Japan, because I usually take Kintetsu and JR West Japan to go to the University. It seems no problem to eat something on the train, because people looks don’t mind and I’ve seen many people eat, like breakfast, crisps, sweets, and sometime dinner, but most of them are light foods. So I get used to it and sometime eat fruits on the train. I‘ve seen some people have big kind of dog, such as German shepherd and Labrador retriever and also in the train. The first time I saw the German shepherd and second time was Labrador retriever, but they are not looks like guide dog or hearing do, so probably just pet. I’m not sure that we need to buy a ticket to take with animal, but I was surprised about they were quiet and didn’t bark. If you want know something else, just ask me. Miho Yoshimura 4.12.05

My first trip to Florida
========================================

My first trip to Florida
This middle of August I went to Florida in the USA to meet our Indian friends.
My mother has been there twice, but it was first time for me to go, so I was looking
forward to go.

At first we went to Orland and we enjoyed spending in the Universal Studio Florida. Also I was looking forward to go, so I was very happy, but the weather was too hot for us. Next day we met Mr. Dhotre and he took us to NASA (Kennedy Space Centre). My mother has been there twice, but it was also first time for me, so I was very interested in it. I knew about there is “the Astronauts Memorial Foundation honors and memorialize those astronauts who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the American Space Program” and we had time to actually see it. I felt little bit sad, because they are like hero in the USA, but actually I felt they are victims of American science. When we saw the plan of launch in NASA, the names of Challenger and Colombia were disappear. I met Mr. Dhotre and his wife first time and also I head Indian English first time, so I could not understand much what they said, but my mother get used to hear it a little, so sometime she told me in Japanese. Actually Indian English is hard to understand for Japanese and even for English speaking people too. Mrs. Dhotre cooked Indian chicken curry for us and it was delicious.
Next day Mr. Dhotre took us to the cinema near from their house and we watch-
ed the film SPIDER-MAN 2. It was first time for us to watch it. Of course it didn’
t have subtitle, but it was quite easy to understand and we enjoyed. I was happ-
y that I could watch popular American film in the USA and it was good experience for us. After watched it, Mr. Dhotre took us to the large shop and we searched something interesting for us. My mother got the DVD of the KISS and QUEEN and I got the album of American and British artist.
Next day Mr. Dhotre took us to meet the man who had Japanese girl for 6 months in his house. He was interested in Japanese things and he had some questions about Japanese girls, because he saw some things strange for him when he had her. We could
know a little bit about what foreign people think that Japanese people like. After
left his house, Mr. Dhotre took us to the super market and a fish shop to get stuffs for the dinner. My mother cooked many Tenpura, Yakitori, potato salad and Spanish omelet. Mr. Dhotre and his wife invited their Indian friends including our friend Tapan and all of them liked these Japanese foods. After had dinner my mother played Samisen, I and her song Japanese folk songs for them. They seemed happy to hear our songs and Samisen music and one of their friend song for us. It was first time for us to actually hear Indian women was singing and it was impressed. Mr. Dhotre said that he wants to visit Japan with his family in next year.
Next morning Tapan took us to the Miami by his car. It took about two hours and first he took to the beach. The cloud of there were very nice and I think I can not see like that cloud in Nara. Then he took us to the Holocaust memorial which my mother wanted to go. We could understand a little bit about history of it, because
there were only English explanation. Before we went to sleep, Tapan took us to the beach side near from the hotel we booked. We saw the big screen on the beach and it showed the film of Day after tomorrow. That was interesting for us, because
I think we do not see like it in Japan. We got breakfast in Seven eleven near the
hotel and we went there.
Next morning Tapan took us to the some interesting places in Miami. He took
us to the Miami bay market and we had a Mexican food for a lunch there. In Miami
most of people speak only Spanish and also in Miami market.
Finally Tapan told us that his mother wants my mother to come to India, so
My mother said that when Tapan has wedding, I will be able to go there.

International
Educators to Japan 2004

とU.K.

========================================

========================================
